Dr. Kurt Lutgens and his
wife, Dr. Gretchen Allen,
came to the Greenwich, New
York area in 1981 to join Dr.
Joe Cali in building a dream.
All three were classmates
and graduated from Cornell
Veterinary School in 1978.
They started in a small trailer
on the corner of route 29 and
40 in Middle Falls.
The practice grew rapidly in
all directions, Small animal,
Bovine, and Equine. In 1984
the first building was built.
Since that time, the practice
has evolved into three
separate corporations , each
housed in their own facility.
The three Battenkill
corporations have employed
as many as 21 doctors at
one time.
Growth in the Equine part of
the practice necessitated the
Equine Medicine and Surgery
building which opened it's
doors in 1995, our founder
being Dr. Kurt Lutgens, who
has dedicated his life to
Equine Veterinary medicine.
